Data Fundamentals: Certified Data Management Program (CDMP)

Data is said to be ‘the new oil’. We believe that ‘water’ is a better metaphor: water is essential for human survival, and data is essential for business success. Since data is a core asset for the organization, we believe that it should be managed as such.

The DAMA DMBOK is the global defacto standard for data management. The Certified Data Management Program (CDMP) is DAMA’s certification program and distinguishes between four levels of certification: associate, practitioner, master, and fellow. The program is aimed at ensuring that professionals
operate from a common vocabulary and framework to ensure that organizations reap value from their data assets.

OUR APPROACH

We believe in a good balance between (academic) theory and (practical) experience in the field. To help professionals and their organizations, we offer a mix of services, all rooted in the theory of DAMA DMBOK (Data Management Body of Knowledge) as well as our practical experience. This training prepares participants for the CDMP associate exam. In our experience, “memorizing the book” is not sufficient to pass the exam. Our approach consists of three elements, notably: (1) discussion of the core concepts and theory in the book, (2) observations about data management in practice, and (3) practice questions for the exam.

The CDMP training is aimed at the formal exam and therefore primarily focuses on the theory as presented in the DMBOK. The mix between theory and practice is approximately 70%/30%.
